LEADERSHIP

AMRITA COTTRELL is the Founding Director of The Healing Music Organization and the Co-Director of The Crystal Sound Institute. Her work in sound and healing music came from her own amazing recovery from breast cancer in 1999, when she was able to eradicate two tumors in as little as six weeks with the sound of her own voice. Amrita has a degree in the Health Arts and Sciences and is an inspiring teacher and public speaker. She is an accomplished musician and singer. Her music artfully blends her playing of crystal singing bowls with her high, clear singing. She has shared her healing story and her work with the crystal bowls at the United Nations, as well as the NY Times and CBS News.

Amrita serves on the Advisory Board of Threshold Choir and the Sound and Music Alliance.

KATE MUNGER agrees with Rumi who says, "Let what you love be what you do." She lives with her family, sings, works and swims along the shores of Tomales Bay and has lead community singing for 30 years. (Her definition of "tribe" is "people who sing the same songs."

In 2000 Kate founded the first of what she thought would be primarily local Bay Area Threshold Choirs, for women who are called to sing at the bedsides of people who are dying or in coma, for newborns and incarcerated women. Today there are more than 2000 singers and 70+ Threshold Choirs across the USA, Canada, England, Iceland and Australia.

These choirs are a way for singers to express gratitude for the rich gift of singing in their lives, offer a deepening of the act of "being" with people who are dying, ill, in coma or with newborns, and bring together a magnificent community of huge-hearted, collaborative, creative women who know that true service heals everyone.

In 2009 Kate received The Jefferson Award for her selfless dedication to the work of the Threshold Choir.
